May 2011Web and social media drive new PR
PR’s recently found love for online platforms is proving to be the perfect romance – statistics just released by Nielsen Australian Online Consumer Report state that the average Australian spends 21 hours and 42 minutes of their life online each week, equating to three hours and six minutes each day – that’s an incredible opportunity for brand exposure.
With the internet being used extensively in people’s everyday lives, it is crucial for public relations to have an integrated media strategy that incorporates social media. No longer are people merely engaging with brands face-to-face; they are also engaging face-to-screen.
Social media ensures a brand remains relevant in today’s world. Integrated communications solutions between different media can broaden the spectrum of a brand’s audience and reinforce its image. This is proved by the fact that almost 70 per cent of television viewers use their computer (or smartphone) at the same time. This suggests that campaigns which combine television and internet advertising may grant you more bang for your buck. It’s also worth spending some time on Facebook, with the social media website recently overtaking YouTube as the world’s most popular site for uploading videos (43 per cent of those surveyed engage in brand commentary).
With such a strong influence, who wouldn’t want to use social media to boost their profile?
At icon.pr we have always recognised the value of social media and embraced the online phenomenon from the early days. You can checkout our campaign work or email us to find out how we can tailor an online presence to suit your business.
